CA Sport on track at Daytona in the Grand-am 200
Daytona, the world center of racing, was the center of attention for the CA Sport team in January. The GRAND-AM 200 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge saw the return of team regulars Lara Tallman and Vesko Kozarov partnered behind the wheel of the 67 Skullcandy Honda. With many updates to our team as well as some regulation changes added to the already extremely competitive GRAND-AM field assured us of a busy test day and a tough climb towards the sharp end of the field. 78 cars on 3.5 miles of race track makes for hard work even in practice. Picking our way through the setup we were able to tune a fair car for
the race. It is amazing how much better team meetings sound through a pair of Skullcandy Aviators!
With a good qualifying effort and a great opening stint, Lara completed her driving tasks for the event by handing over a clean car to Vesko on lap 10. From there, the team called a great strategy and a solid mid race charge through the field saw us in the top five with half an hour to go. Two separate caution periods and general last lap mania prevented further progress. So a well deserved fifth it is. The team was flawless all weekend in car preparation, strategy and pit work. It will take all that and more to stay at the sharp end, as the rest of the field is as deep with talent as ever and the difference between 1st. and 15th. is minor at best. We are ready! Miami is next.
Many thanks to the Pfadt Racing crew for their support.
